The big break included strong riders like Remco Evenepoel, Adam Yates, and Egan Bernal. Ineos, Quick Step, and Bahrain were seen blocking the breakaway, while Jumbo-Visma was nowhere to be seen. This indicated that the breakaway was winning the stage, and it was a significant indicator of Yambo’s intentions.

Remco’s Dominance and the First Long Climb

As the first long climb of the day began, Remco Evenepoel started to push the pace, getting rid of some of his competitors and securing the King of the Mountains points. The GC group remained relatively steady, and there was a decent valley punctuated by a 3K 9 climb, the Alto de Tane.

The Battle in the GC Group

Remco’s Stage Win

Despite a few attacks, Remco Evenepoel continued to dominate the stage, putting significant time into his competitors. He released Max Pool and put a minute into the chasing group in the last 4 kilometers of the first repetition of Linares. It was clear that Remco was on track to win the stage.

Yambo-Visma’s Team Dynamics

In the GC group, Jumbo-Visma’s team dynamics were put to the test as Bahrain started pacing to set up an attack. However, it became clear that Vlasov and Landa were not going to attack, and Vingegaard acted as a domestique, working to maintain a steady pace and control the group.

Ayuso’s Strong Performance

Meanwhile, Enric Mas Ayuso put in a much better performance, attacking Landa and even challenging him at the finish. Despite the battles in the GC group, there were no significant changes in the top ten standings.

Remco’s Victory and the Road Ahead

Remco’s Dedication and the GC Standings

Remco Evenepoel secured his third stage win, dedicating it to his wife, Umi. While his GC plans didn’t work out, he expressed pride in his team’s performance. The stage saw no changes in the top ten standings, with Cruz extending his lead in the red jersey.

Looking Ahead to Stage 20

The stage set the stage for an exciting finale, with the potential for chaos in the looming Stage 20. With the stage recapped, the focus turns to the next stage, promising more thrilling moments in the Vuelta a España.

“`

The opinions expressed in this space are the sole responsibility of the YouTube Channel Lanterne Rouge and do not necessarily represent the views of CicloNews.

Bicycles4ever

Jonas Vingegaard Plays Domestique for Sepp Kuss | Vuelta a Espana 2023 Stage 18 with Lanterne Rouge Source: Lanterne Rouge Youtube Channel: Jonas Vingegaard Plays Domestique for Sepp Kuss | Vuelta a Espana 2023 Stage 18 Video Jonas Vingegaard Plays Domestique for Sepp Kuss | Vuelta a Espana 2023 Stage 18 with Lanterne Rouge Video […]

{"twitter_1742903173470134272_1742903173470134272":"
"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

3
139
post-21130","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-road","tag-lanterne-rouge
https://bicycles4ever.com/en/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2024/01/Jonas-Vingegaard-Plays-Domestique-for-Sepp-Kuss-Vuelta-a.jpg
["GET
